Sarah Richmond

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Sarah Richmond is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in OCD and anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. She has practiced across partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and private practice settings. She particularly enjoys working with young adults. She earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington and her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Oklahoma.

Sarah came to OCD specialty work because she kept seeing how poorly understood and undertreated it is. OCD is one of the most misdiagnosed conditions in mental health, frequently mistaken for other disorders and often made worse by well-intentioned but non-specialized treatment. She believes every person with OCD deserves a clinician who actually knows what they are dealing with, and that conviction drives her work.

Her approach is direct, collaborative, and occasionally funny. Sarah does not believe therapy has to be somber to be meaningful, and she finds that a little humor goes a long way when asking someone to do the hard, uncomfortable work that real OCD treatment requires. She is straightforward with clients about what the evidence says, what ERP actually involves, and what they can realistically expect, because she thinks honesty is more respectful than sugarcoating.

Sarah is trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with specialized ERP training through the Cognitive Behavior Institute. Sarah’s approach to ERP centers on helping clients build new experiences that give the brain something different to work with. When someone can sit with a feared thought, situation, or feeling without doing a compulsion or avoiding it, that experience starts to chip away at what OCD has been insisting is true. Those moments add up, and that’s where real recovery comes from.

Outside of the office, Sarah is a dedicated homebody who recharges by staying in with her cat, Phoebe. In her free time, she enjoys learning new things, listening to podcasts, and spending time with her nieces.
